Showing Content Layers on Map

Click the "Map Content Layers" toolbar Button to acces the list of available layers.

Note: Because the information differs between licences and registrations, checking a layer within registrations will turn off all layers within licences and vice versa.

Selecting Licences on Map

Click the "Select Licences" toolbar Button to access Licence selection options

• You can select a WMA from the drop down list to highlight a WMA of interest
• Clicking the "Zoom to WMA" button will zoom to the extent of the WMA you previously selected from the drop down list
• Clicking the "Select Licences within WMA" will return a Report of all licences visible on the Map for rhe WMA you previously selected from the drop down list
• Clicking the "Select By Rectangle" button will allow you to draw a rectangle shape on the Map which will return a Report for all the visible Licences within the selected area
• Clicking the "Select By Polygon" button will allow you to draw a multi-sided shape on the Map which will return a Report for all the visible Licences within the selected area
• Clicking the "Clear Selection" button will clear your current Licence selections on the Map as well as the selected WMA

Note: there is a limit of 1000 records in any given selection query. The first 1000 licences will only be shown.

Licences

A licence is a written record of an allocation. An allocation is defined as having a priority, volume and rate of diversion. If an allocation is In Good Standing then the licence has the potential to be transferred.

A licence contains annual volume of water, maximum diversion rate, source & location, purpose for use and a priority number (date application was received).

Licence In Good Standing means a licence not suspended, cancelled, expired or that is not in compliance with the terms and conditions of the licence.

Surface Diversions

Surface diversion includes licence or registration records for the diversion of water from a surface water body.

Well Diversions

Well diversions include licence or registration records for the diversion of water from a groundwater water body i.e. an aquifer.

Agricultural

Includes licence records for the diversion of water under the following purposes; stockwatering, feedlot

Commercial

Includes licence records for the diversion of water under the following purposes; aggregate washing, bottling, construction, cooling, drilling (oil/gas wells), garden, golf course, parks, snow/ice making.

Dewatering

Includes licence records for the diversion of water under the following purpose: drainage.

Government Holdback

Industrial

Registration (Traditional Agricultural Registration)

Registration was an opportunity for agricultural water users who used water prior to Jan 1, 1999 for the purpose of raising animals and applying pesticides to crops, to register their use and receive a priority number dating back to the time of first use.

Things to know about a Registration: 1. maximum of 6250 cubic metres (5 acre feet) per farm unit. 2. stays with the land where the source of water occurs, and cannot be transferred 3. is administered with the licenced priorities

Water Management Areas

The Water Act (1999) provides for the provisions for the establishment of Water Management Areas (WMA's). The Director has defined them as geographical areas with a common drainage system or river watershed, which exhibits characteristics of water flow, water use or other issues that are significant enough to identify a need for a water administrative objective.

In this application the WMA's are used to compartmentalize information. A user will be able to zoom into the specific WMA of interest and obtain information. We are currently working on finalizing the boundaries of WMA's.
